How to Study the Neuroanatomy?

 Important Topics of Neuroanatomy

The neuroanatomy section of gross anatomy is the most difficult section that often worries students of 2nd year MBBS. In UHS annual examinations, only one Seq usually comes from this section which may be a diagram and sometimes a diagram with an SEQ or they can both be Seq, theory-based. The best book for studying neuroanatomy is Neuro Snell. This covers every aspect regarding paper solution in your annual examination. However, it isn’t necessary that you have to study the entire neuro Snell book. It’s your choice if you want to read everything, but you can also cover this difficult section by a selective or smart study. Here I have mentioned the topics which are very important for the annual examination of the University of health sciences, Lahore. By studying these topics thoroughly, you can secure pretty good marks in the Neuroanatomy section of Gross anatomy in your final examination. Let’s have a look:

  1. *   Chapter Number 1, 2, 3, 18 only prepare neuralgias functions from the chapter.
  2. *  Chapter number 4 starting from gross appearance of S.C up to ascending tracts (not included) But do remember tracts names and point of discussion & draw them
  3. *    Figure number: 4.11 is important
  4. *    Corticospinal tracts are important
  5. *    Chapter 05: Start from the brain stem anatomy and draw each cross-section
  6. *    Chapter 06: Start gross appearance of cerebellum up to afferent fibers then tracts as usual

  8. *  Chapter 07: Pineal gland functions, 3rd ventricle, gross appearance, sulci gyri, white matter, sulci gyri, etc.
  9. *    Figure 7.14 b is important
  10. *    Chapter 08: Layer name then Broad Man (Number + location)
  11. *    Chapter 09: Functions of RF then complete chapter
  12. *    Chapter 10, 15, 16, 17 prepare these chapters complete
  13. * Chapter 11: Nuclei of nerves are important. Cranial Nerves 3,5,7,8,9,10 are important.  7th Nerve is very important.
  14. *    Chapter 12: Figure 12.3 is important, Table 12.1, Subdivisions are important

  16. * Chapter 14: Start the organization of ANS up to large plexus. Table 14.2 is important
  17. *    Chapter 16: Table 16.1 is important and ventricles boundaries are important
